Seeking Medical Interpreters 

Culmore Clinic is a 501-C (3) healthcare clinic serving low-income adults in the Bailey's Crossroads community at little to no cost. Its mission is to provide excellent medical care, counseling, and specialty referrals to all, no matter economic or language barriers. With 

particular interest in effectively serving the community’s diverse population, Culmore Clinic 

offers interpretation services by native speakers and trained medical interpreters to 

provide culturally sensitive and compassionate care. The Clinic is committed to maintaining a 

significantly volunteer staff allowing more resources to go toward patient care. The Clinic was 

founded by the community, for the community and strives to be a safe - haven for all those who 

wish to give and receive care. 

What We Are Looking For: 

Medical Interpretation is a specialized skill which enables a patient to receive healthcare in his/her native language. Medical Interpreters facilitate this valued healthcare communication while maintaining a professional distance from the patient, both physically and emotionally. 

Culmore Clinic seeks medical interpreters with some or all the following attributes: 

• Native speaker Spanish and English  
• Knowledge of medical terminology - an up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology and procedures is essential to communicate with doctors, nurses, and medical staff, and to relay that information correctly to the patient. 
• Command of what a person is saying to you and the ability to repeat back accurately. 

• Intuition to ask for clarity when needed. 
• Culturally sensitive 
• Commitment to patient confidentiality 
• Ability to enable direct communication between provider and patient and avoid entering equation to offer direct help 

What to Expect: 

Should you be interested in volunteering with Culmore Clinic, you can expect the following: 

• Online Volunteer application forms 
• Meet and greet which includes an exchange in target language 
• Documents sent via DocuSign to ensure required signatures are obtained    
•  Background check required 
• Introduction to Interpreter Code of Ethics as well as Clinic interpreter process with the expectation to follow both closely 
• Orientation to include shadowing and observation 
• Attendance of monthly Interpreter meetings
