Mental Health Counselor 

The Free Clinic of Powhatan is seeking a caring mental health practitioner to provide counseling to adults and families. The part-time practitioner will work approximately 20 hours weekly and should be available to work on Mondays and Thursdays.  

Duties of this part-time position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Perform initial evaluation of patients’ needs, diagnose mental or emotional disorders, and develop treatment plans. 
• Conduct treatment sessions with consideration of patient base living in low-income circumstances. 

• Develop coping strategies for patients. 
• Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans, as needed. 
• Coordinate with FCP health care providers and psychiatrist to provide patients with needed services. 
• Conduct group events as a part of community outreach and assist in developing such opportunities. 

Qualifications: 

• Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as LPC or LCSW degree with at least two years of experience. If not licensed, the candidate must be in pursuit of licensure (under supervision). 
• Possess skills in treatment of population served, behavior modification, treatment planning, record documentation, de-escalation, individual, group, and family therapy. 
• Ability to work independently and with others. 
• Ability to empathize with others. 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
• Job-associated technology and computer proficiency. 
• Maintain confidentiality at all times. 
• Spanish language skills desirable, but not mandatory. 

Salary: $38.00 - $44.00 per hour
