Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic is in need of volunteer Licensed Practical Nurses or Registered Nurses to provide support for patient care.  GMCC has been providing health care and medications to the uninsured adults of Gloucester and Mathews Counties since 1998.  We have a dedicated and compassionate team of providers, but the pandemic has created a shortage of nursing support.   GMCC is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Fridays from 8:30 am to noon.  We hope you will consider volunteering your time with us to help us fulfill our mission of serving those who need us.  Duties as a volunteer may include:

Regular Duties:

  • Escorting patients to triage, examination rooms and front desk for check out.
  • Gathering patient information at the start of the visit to include vital signs, oral assessments, visual acuity, etc. as required. Assessing presenting problems and indicators of life threatening conditions.
  • Performing medication and allergy reconciliation at each patient visit.
  • Ensuring timely, thorough documentation of all patient interactions in accordance with medical-legal standards and Clinic policies.
  • Performing routine patient procedures i.e. lab tests, vaccinations, EKG’s, nebulizer treatments, etc.
  • Assisting providers during patient examinations and treatment, i.e. wound care, I&D, suture removal, etc.
  • Responding to routine patient inquiries and/or telephone calls. Determining initial assessment of patient condition and determines appropriate plan of care according to established guidelines.
  • Providing patient education.
  • Facilitating patient referrals
  • Monitoring patient compliance.
  • Accurately tracking and reporting data as directed.
  • Taking inventory and maintaining stock of medical supplies and ensures exam rooms are properly equipped.
  • Maintaining medical equipment as appropriate.
  • Complies with HIPAA and OSHA training requirements and protocols.
