Connection to Mission:  Assist low income individuals access dental care

Duties:

• Evaluate patient concerns and determine a diagnosis.
• Perform necessary hygiene procedures to benefit patient’s dental needs.
• Communicate to dental assistant necessary tools for procedures and chart information.
• Make professional recommendations to patient in order to benefit patient’s future dental care.
• Make referrals when necessary.

Qualifications:

• Commitment to a professional, courteous, and compassionate relationship with clients while avoiding any favoritism.
• Commitment to maintain client confidentiality at all times.
• Virginia Dental License and credentials in good standing.
• Proof of Hepatitis B vaccinations.
• Organizational skills and ability to attend to detail.
• Interest in working one on one with clients.
• Ability to communicate effectively and positively with clients, fellow volunteers and staff.

Training:

• Volunteer Orientation
• “If Saliva Were Red” video
• Training by staff and/or volunteers

Time Required:  3 hours/weekly or every other week (more hours available, if interested)
