The idea for starting a free clinic in Orange County was inspired by a group of committed physicians and community leaders sensitive to the lack of access to health care for low income, uninsured residents. In 2007, doors opened to 86 registered patients. To put it in perspective we have over 5,000 patients registered today. In 2007, the Orange County Health Department gave the Clinic borrowed space to operate on Tuesday nights for walk-in patients. Today, the Clinic operates in space located in the Silk Mill Complex at 101 C Woodmark Street.

At the time, In-kind donations from Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) and Culpeper Regional Hospital followed as did a partnership between Orange Pharmacy, Wilderness Pharmacy and Rappahannock – Rapidan Community Services Board. The relationship between many of these early community partners and the OCFC remains strong to this day. In 2009, the OCFC became a member of the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. In 2011 the clinic became a member of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.

As a community based healthcare provider, the OCFC is supported by its community, including individuals, private foundations and grants with no direct federal funding and offers consistent, nurturing care to residents of Orange County.
